I received this item today and was skeptical when I ordered it, but I'm glad I did. It has a solid Construction made of metal and the base is ARCA Swiss compatible. It fits my Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a replacement.

This sturdy collar fits the lens well, and has a 1/4" thread to match my Manfrotto QR2 quick release plate (sold separately elsewhere). It also has an alignment hole adjacent to the threads, This is seen in the seller's photo of the bottom of the plate, to the right of the arrow. The hole matches up with a similar hole in the QR2. The QR2 kit includes a plastic antirotation pin that goes into both holes, preventing the lens mount from rotating with respect to the QR2 plate. Manfrotto says this pin is for camcorders, but it also works with the IShoot B(W).

I needed to be able to securely attach a camera with a heavy telephoto lens to a telescope that tracked the stars. Because the camera is often hanging nearly upside down or sideways because of how the telescope tracks the stars, I needed something very secure. This lens collar does the job perfectly! Using a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter I was able to use TWO screws to connect the collar to a dovetail plate, making a very solid connection. I used this setup to take the attached photo of the Orion Nebula--and never had to worry that my camera would fall.

I got this for its built-in ARCA-compatible quick release plate. It does the job beautifully.Well made, fits perfectly and functions just as it should. (it's also sized properly to fit in Really Right Stuff lever-type clamps.)

If I could give fractional stars, I would give this tripod collar a 4.8 (see below). Since it's so close to a 5, that's what I think it deserves.The construction and engineering are flawless. The ring feels solid and well built. It fits nicely onto my Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS (Mark I) and holds it snugly. Furthermore, the base mates perfectly with my Really Right Stuff ball head. The base also has precisely machined 1/4" and 3/8" threaded holes for those who don't use an Arca Swiss mount. The holes are precisely on the lens centerline. (I think it's worth noting that the RRS plate designed for the original Canon collar has only a 1/4" hole, which is offset from the center.)Some purchasers may not like the fact that the collar is black rather than white. I don't see that as a big deal, since the lens already has two black rubber rings for the focus and zoom functions. (Plus, I've covered all the white up with gaffer tape to help disguise the lense, but that's a personal choice.)

Finally, and on a truly nit-picky issue, the mounting plate has two different pairs of Allen screws: one pair holds the plate to the collar (although I don't understand why it needs to be removable) and the other pair serves as stops to keep the Arca-Swiss plate from sliding off the tripod head. The collar comes with an Allen wrench that fits the mounting screws but not the stops. I think most people are more likely to want to remove the stops than the entire mounting plate (since the collar is useless without it), and in any case there's no good reason to use two different sizes for the two functions. But since the sizes are standard ones, it's easy to pick up a wrench at the local hardware store if you need to.All in all, I'm really happy with this collar. I'm glad I paid a few dollars extra to get something I can trust to hold my expensive lens. I just hope that the manufacturer decides to add the 90° mark in a future edition.

So why do I give it a 4.8? There are three minor drawbacks. First, the foot that connects to the tripod is relatively small (smaller than the RRS plate). That's not a problem if you're just using the lens, but if you attach a teleconverter it would be nice to have a little more fore-and-aft play so you could find a better balance point.Second, the collar copies the Canon design in having a prominent alignment mark so that you can rotate the lens (and camera) to precisely horizontal. But like the Canon (and unlike some competitors) there isn't a similar mark at the 90° point(s). So when you're shooting vertically, you have to guess. Since an additional mark is just a trivial silkscreening change, I consider that a pretty significant omission.
